ALTHORP HOUSE
& the 9th EARL
When Diana's father  'Johnnie' Spencer succeeded to the earldom in 1975, he moved his family westward to the gently rolling Midlands countryside of Northamptonshire and took up residence in the ancestral home, Althorp House. As son and heir, Charles Spencer then acquired the courtesy title, Viscount Althorp.

Charles Spencer was sent from a young age to boarding school. He attended Britain's most famous public school, Eton College, not far from Windsor Castle, before graduating from Oxford with a degree in Modern History.

Charles Spencer's first career was as a television foreign news correspondent for the U.S. network, NBC, where he reported from more than 30 countries. He is also the author of two books: Althorp: The Story of an English House (1998) and The Spencer Family (1999).

Charles has overseen the conversion of Althorp into one of England's most impressive yet hospitable estates in England. Althorp now receives as many as 2,500 visitors per day. Diana a celebration at the Althrop house

Mother Teresa

Five days following the death of Princess Diana in Paris Mother Teresa died of heart failure in Calcutta, India. Never  has the global village ever experienced such a cathartic effect of having two personalities so loved the world over pass within days of each other.

Diana's funeral in London was televised worldwide, hardly anyone was not aware of the tragedy that had taken the 36-year old people's princess. More than 1 million bouquets were left at her London home, Kensington Palace, while at her family estate of Althorp the public was asked to stop bringing flowers as the volume of people and flowers in the surrounding roads was causing a threat to public safety.

Mother Teresa's funeral was also televised internationally, from Calcutta, where a crowd estimated at 1 million pressed close hoping to touch her casket as it passed.

The Princess's first official visit overseas on her own was in September 1982, when she represented The Queen at the state funeral of Princess Grace of Monaco.
The Princess's first solo overseas tour was in February 1984 when she travelled to Norway to attend a performance of Carmen by the London City Ballet, of which she was patron. The Princess subsequently visited many countries including Germany, the United States, Pakistan, Switzerland, Hungary, Egypt, Belgium, France, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Nepal.
AIDS

In April 1987, the Princess of Wales was the first high-profile celebrity to be photographed touching a person infected with the HIV virus.

"In 1987, when so many still believed that AIDS could be contracted through casual contact, Princess Diana sat on the sickbed of a man with AIDS and held his hand. She showed the world that people with AIDS deserved not isolation, but compassion. It helped change world opinion, helped give hope to people with AIDS, and helped save lives of people at risk."Bill Clinton at the 'Diana, Princess of Wales Lecture on AIDS' Dec  2001

LAND MINES

She is widely acclaimed for her influence on the signing by the governments of the UK and other nations of the Ottawa Treaty in December 1997, after her death, which created an international ban on the use of anti-personnel landmines.

"All Honourable Members will be aware from their postbags of the immense contribution made by Diana, Princess of Wales to bringing home to many of our constituents the human costs of landmines. The best way in which to record our appreciation of her work, and the work of NGOs that have campaigned against landmines, is to pass the Bill, and to pave the way towards a global ban on landmines.

Princess Diana's parents' acrimonious divorce over Lady Althorp's [Frances Burke Roche ]adultery with wallpaper heir Peter Shand Kydd, Diana's mother sued for custody of her children, but Lord Althorp's rank, aided by Lady Althorp's mother's testimony against her daughter during the trial, meant custody of Diana and her brother was awarded to their father. On the death of her paternal grandfather, Albert Spencer, 7th Earl Spencer, in 1975, Diana's father became the 8th Earl Spencer, and she acquired the courtesy title of The Lady Diana Spencer.

The late Barbara Cartland, Britian's most famous and successful romance novelist was Diana's step grandma

CLAIRVOYANT DIANA: Diana like many young girls fantasized that she would marry prince charming but there was more to this prediction than most. She was sure she was going to marry someone "in the public eye". In Andrew Morton's  Diana : Her True Story in Her Own Words She tells about predicting her father's stroke in 1975.  Also here  was Diana's belief in 1992 that "while she knows that William will one day be King, she is firm in her belief that she will never become Queen" and "I am performing my duty as Princess of Wales, but I can't see it for much longer than 15 years." As we all know, she was Princess of Wales for 16 years. She made these statements 6 years before she died.
In 2004, her Butler Paul Burrell revealed a letter from Diana, written 10 months before her death, suggesting that she might be killed in a car crash arranged by the Royal Family.

Download "She was beautiful, she was young, and she was-- in every sense of the word-- fresh. Much was made of her virginity at the time-- the very notion having become, by then, something of an antique novelty and perhaps, in some circles, even an embarrassment-- and the palace did all it could to keep Lady Diana unspoiled. No interviews. Not too much exposure. But Lady Diana had a mind of her own that soon showed the nickname given her by the press, 'Shy Di,' to be wide of the mark. Her first public appearance with Charles, when she wore a strapless gown, caused the kind of minor sensation that seemed to belong to a more innocent age." time.com/time/daily/special/diana/
