Former Supervisor and now CalTrans chief Jose Medina with wife Raquel stood in for Mayor Willie Brown. In twenty years, no Mayor has ever
appeared in the Carnaval parade.

Carnaval-SF Bay Area at the Mother of All Carnivals,
Trinidad 1999
DJ Jim 'Spincycle' Sowers was among the
most African participants who crossed the Savannah stage at Trinidad
Carnival 1999. Spincycle was an impressive '99 King candidate
doing stylishly doing the triple soca/salsa/samba.
Every year Mas Maker's Stephen & Colleen Tiffenson do their pilgrimage to Trinidad where in '99 they hung with Peter Minshall's Lost Tribe. They also attend the annual Caribbean Carnival Association representing the San Francisco Carnival artists.

Dr. Daniel Crowley
shown here with his family was pioneering academic for Carnival. As
the fates would have it, the much respected author died on Carnival
day in Bolivia while leading a Carnaval tour up a
hill.
