KING NORBERTO MARTINEZ
"Beautiful, we are so proud." said Amanda Almonte after Norberto's performance. The director of Ensambles where Norberto works as a dance instructor also added "We knew he was going to win."

He is an enthusiastic, high energy dance professional trained in modern dance, classical ballet as well as Mexican folk dance.  His interest is in learning and performing all typos of dance.  He is actively involved in the program Young Audiences of the Bay Area where he spreads his love of dance to local school children.  
Norberto's talents are many. Besides being a refined, graceful dancer capable of quickly captivating an audience he is also dance instructor and choreographer for Ensambles Ballet Folklorico de San Francisco.  He recently choreographed and directed the spectacular production of Un Mundo Maya y Su Majestad El Danzon with Ensambles Ballet Folklorico de San Francisco.  ( ensambles.com ) The acclaimed dance company is best known for its many accomplished teachers who seek to enhance the traditional elements  of the dance form without sacrificing the folkloric value.  They will be participating in their first Carnaval San Francisco in 2002 through the efforts of Carnaval Queen 2001 and Carnaval Artistic Liaison Elizabeth Soberanes.

Norberto Martinez also made his own costume as part of the preparation to make sure no one else but he could be called San Francisco Carnaval King 2002

Norberto Martinez was born in the  Yucatan's great colonial City of Merida where he graduated from the Instituto Mexicano de Artes and Instituto de las Bellas Artes of Merida.
Merida has one of Mexicos best Carnavals which star their Queen(s) giving the King a minor role to
play.

King Norberto has performed professionally in Europe, South America, Mexico and the U.S.A. as a principal dancer of Jorge Faz Dance Company and Ballet Folkloric Group of University of Yucatan. 
Since arriving to the Bay Area, he has established his local dance career performing in a number of high quality, diverse productions including the chamber opera Queer, the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, the Opera Carmen, People Like Me and many other productions.  He is currently performing flamenco dance with the company Grupo Andanza.
