JUNE Summer begins!

Also running all summer long is the Stern Grove Festival. In addition to presenting free summer Sunday concerts, the Festival has a mission to improve community life.

Yerba Buena Gardens Festival Running all summer, the festival is a series of concerts and cultural events that are free and open to the public.

Union Street Festival
WHEN: First Wekend of June
WHERE: Union Street, betwen Gough & Steiner
One of San Francisco's largest free art festivals. More than 100,000 attendees come from all over the United States to enjoy the event.

San Francisco Accordion Festival
When: First weekend of June
Where: The Cannery ar Fisherman's Wharf
a free event celebrating National Accordion Awareness Month as well as highlighting The City’s official musical instrument. This unique event features a wide variety of accordion-based bands and will include the San Francisco’s Main Squeeze Pageant.

Black and White Ball: Don't miss out on San Francisco's most extravagant premiere party-one glorious night of continuous music and dancing and a lavish array of delectables from the Bay Area's finest restaurants.  Falls every other year.

Ethnic Dance Festival  
WHEN: 2nd, 3rd & 4th weekends in June
WHERE: Palace of Fine Arts Theater.
The premier event for the incredible diversity of dance troupes in the Bay Area. March tryouts are a hot ticket as well. Founded in the Mission now plays at the Palace of Fine Arts.

North Beach Festival
WHEN: Third weekend in June. Free.
WHERE: Washington Square, Upper Grant St., Church of SS Peter and Paul, Shrine of St. Francis di Assisi. 
A festival celebrating the Italian heritage and Beat history of North Beach, with live music, poetry readings, dancing, arte di gesso (street chalk art) arts and crafts booths, and food al fresco.

Live Oak Park Fair
WHEN: Mid-June
WHERE: Live Oak Park, Berkeley 
120 distinctive booths of original juried art and crafts, with continuous live jazz presented by Berkeley's jazz school .

Haight-Ashbury Street Fair
WHEN: Mid-June.
WHERE: Upper Haight. 
Come celebrate one of SF's most colorful neighborhoods with music, arts, crafts and food.

 

Juneteenth Festival 
WHEN: Third weekend in June.
WHERE: Fillmore Street, Western Addition and other locations
Commemorating the reading of the Emancipation Proclamation by Abraham Lincoln on June 19, 1863 , A celebration of freedom  for all people. Live music, food, a parade and more. There is also a celebration in Oakland between Adeleine & Martin Luther King Blvd, south of Ashby BART.

Sonoma-Marin Fair  
WHEN: Late June.
WHERE: Petaluma
Five days of affordable family fun, with music, agricultural shows and kids events.

Master Mariners Wooden Boat Show  
WHEN: Late June.
WHERE: Corinthian Yacht Club, Tiburon
Shipbuilders show off their creations to the public and teach a little boating history while they're at it. Model building activities for children as well.

Marin Art Festival  
WHEN: June.
WHERE: Frank Lloyd Wright Marin Civic Center, San Rafael
More than 200 artists convene for "America's most beautiful art festival.

San Francisco Black Film Festival  
WHEN: mid-June.
WHERE: Brava Theater, Bayview Opera House, African American Art & Culture Complex
A five day film festival with submissions from around the world highlighting the African American experience.

San Francisco Free Folk Festival  
WHEN: Late June.
WHERE: Roosevelt Middle School
Free celebration of folk music, with performances, dance & music workshops and plenty of family activities.

San Francisco International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival: The world's oldest festival of LGBT cinema runs the third weekend of June at the Castro and Herbst Theaters.

S.F. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Celebration: Gay Pride parade from the Embarcadero to the Civic Center on the last weekend of June, with many participants in costume. Pride Parade 2003

Fillmore Jazz Festival
When: Early July
Where: Fillmore Street in San Francisco, between Jackson and Eddy
More than 90,000 guests celebrate jazz, culture and cuisine against the picturesque backdrop of Fillmore Street.

Pier 39 Fourth of July Celebration - Free!
WHEN: July 4th all day, with fireworks at 9:30

San Francisco Marathon

San Francisco Silent Film Festival

Books By The Bay

A celebration of independent book selling. This free events will draw upwards of 10,000 book lovers.

AIDS Walk San Francisco
WHEN: Mid-July
WHERE: Golden Gate Park
The walk through Golden Gate Park ends at Sharon MEadows, and raises funds for
San Francisco AIDS Foundation and other Bay Area AIDS service organizations.

Up Your Alley Fair

Urban Youth Arts Festival

Youth and family are invited to come and be a part of positive and creative expression with San Francisco/ Bay Area artists at the Annual Urban Youth Arts Festival in Precita Park, San Francisco. Participate in traditional as well as aerosol mural painting.

Chinatown Night Market Fair

WHERE:  Portsmouth Square
Chinatown's Portsmouth Square in transformed from a park into a marketplace of bargains entertainment and arts. The similarity to Hong Kong is uncanny.

Jewish Film Festival
WHEN: Late July through early August
WHERE:  At the Castro Theatre and other theaters in the Bay Area.
It's the first and oldest Jewish film festival in the world, with screenings of more than 40 films by Jewish filmmakers from around the world. 

San Francisco Theater Festival
When: Late July
Where: Yerba Buena Gardens
Blowout one-day theater extravaganza, with over sixty shows on nine stages.

Bodega Bay Seafood Art & Wine Festival
At Chanslor Ranch. One mile north of Bodega Bay Fairgrounds.Indulge in local seafood, wine, beer, art and crafts at this summer festival. More than a dozen caterers serve up dishes like key lime calmari, BBQ oysters and coconut shrimp fritters. Three stages of live music entertain, as well as a kid's fun zone and pony rides. Last weekend of August.

Oakland Chinatown Street Festival
WHEN: Last weekend of August.
WHERE: Chinatown, Oakland. 
Festival goers are treated to nonstop live entertainment on four stages, arts and crafts, games, valuable community information, children activities, a myriad of culinary delights and special attractions.

Nihonmachi Street Fair
WHEN: mid-August.
WHERE: Japantown. 
Celebrate the Bay area's diverse Asian communities with food booths. live music and artisan displays.

San Francisco Aloha Festival
WHEN: Early August.
WHERE: Presidio Main Parade Grounds. 
This free two day festival offers up the music and dance talents of Pacific Islanders. There will also be arts and crafts, vendors and Pacific Island cuisine.

AfroSolo Arts Festival
WHEN: Early August to Mid-September
WHERE: Various venues in San Francisco
The mission is to nurture, promote, and present African American art and culture through solo performances and the visual arts.
