Surfing for Places To Stay
Trinidad is working on increasing its number of hotel rooms (about 2000), for now it is easy to keep track of the major hotels which you will find highlighted below.  
Tobago may have the widest diversity of accommodations in the Caribbean from $20 per night for a rustic B&B to annual per capita income per night luxury resort accommodations with your own staff. On the small island of Tobago you can enjoy the classic Caribbean vacation centered around beautiful beaches, fine dining and the slower rhythms of island culture. If your heading strait to Tobago or any island with a quick overnight  stop over in Trinidad it is best to use an airport hotel to avoid growing highway traffic jams and unnecessary taxi expense which doubles for night owl service. 
Remember to budget for VAT of 15% and a 10% service charge

Trinidad’s North Coast has some good breaks for surfers. Popular beaches in Trinidad include Carenage Bay and Macqueripe Beach in the North West and Maracas Bay , Las Cuavas and Blanchisseuse in the North Coast Grande Rivière is the best known with a listing. In the North East there is Sans Souci Bay, Toco and Grand Mariane

There is no nude or topless bathing anywhere in Trinidad and Tobago (unless, perhaps, you can find a secluded German-owned hotel in Tobago)

"Few other islands have crowded six-lane highways, so to reduce tensions behind the wheel remember: timing is essential. Leave for a destination outside of Port of Spain (POS) either before seven in the morning or after nine-thirty to avoid being stuck in a miles-long traffic jam! There is another lapse in traffic around one-thirty in the afternoon. Try to return at three-thirty or after five. Saturday afternoons and Sundays are excellent days to drive."

    • You'll need a car to see all there is to see. T&T is a car-based society (1 vehicle for every 3 persons). There is a growing congestion problem in Port of Spain metro area and avoiding commute times is advisable.

    Driving: On the left - The steering wheel is on the right side and you drive on the left side of the road. A foreign or international driver's license is required for car rentals. While the supplementary insurance at home is usually not cost-effective when combined with personal and credit card insurance, here it ads a comfortable extra level of dealing since you will be navigating both narrow roads and an unfamiliar driving protocol
     It is the law that you wear your seatbelt, and you should watch for the road conditions. While normally good in the towns, they can be more rugged in the open country. Unlike in the United States it is also common for drivers to rely on hand signals when turning or stopping.

    Gas stations are not as plentiful as in other countries, nor are they open late at night, so be sure you keep the car fueled up too.
    In case of an accident: Remain calm. Photograph the scene if possible. Otherwise, mark the position of the tires on the ground (scrape with a stone or chalk). Make sure that the other driver has done the same. Then you can move your vehicle to the side of the road. Call your rental agency, and report the accident to the nearest police station, even if the onlookers assure you that this is not necessary. Be sure to get the other driver's license plate number, and his insurance information.
