The Sunday is  less crowded and it features the Children's bands. Carnival is always held on the last Monday of August and the Saturday and Sunday preceding it.  The 3-day bank holiday in the UK marks the end of summer. For 2005 the 3 main days of the Carnival will be August 27th to 29th.  Calendar 2004 2005

Calypso Tent,
Association of British Calypsonians (ABC) brings the best in calypso and soca. Afficionados perform a medley of songs, rhythms, percussion, lyrics and bachhanal.
There's 10 2004 finalists vying in the final round of the competition against reigning monarch, Singing Sandra.
 The competition will also include performances by Explainer, Soca Elvis and Cyclops, as well as Trinidad and Tobago’s Junior Calypso Monarch, Sheyenne Hazell.

Nursery Carnival

The Nursery Carnival is hosted by the Children and Parents Carnival Association (CAPCA) and will take place in St Mark’s Park on 9th August. For those aged 0-10 years, the event includes the Junior Panorama and mas competitions and is set to fill the Notting Hill airwaves with thunderous bursts of Calypsonian and Soca music.

Getting There By Tube 2004

For safety reasons tube stations in the carnival area may close temporarily if they become overcrowded.

  • Ladbroke Grove
    Station closed on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.
  • Notting Hill Gate
    There will be no interchange between the Central and Circle/District lines on either day. On Sunday and Monday the station will be ‘way out only' between 12pm and 7pm. On Monday, the Circle and District lines will not stop from 12pm to 7.30pm.
  • Westbourne Park
    On Sunday and Monday the station will be ‘way out only' between 11am and 6pm. The station will close at 11.30pm.
  • Bayswater
    On Monday it may be advisable to use this station as Circle/District line trains will not stop at Notting Hill Gate.
  • Other stations
    Other stations near to the Carnival:
    High Street Kensington, Holland Park, Queensway and Queen's Park.

Getting There By Bus

Bus routes 7, 12, 18, 23, 27, 28, 31, 36, 52, 70, 94, 148, 295, 316 and 328 all run close to the Carnival festivities. Many extra buses are running, especially on Monday evening, to get you home quickly and safely.

Additionally, bus routes 6, 15, 187, 205, 220, 274, 436, 705 all operate within a comfortable walking distance.
