Tipping: Keep in mind that hotels generally add a 10% service charge to the bill, which may be regarded as a tip for the hotel staff.
Hotel Tax:  Hotels also add a 7.5% Value Added Tax (VAT), set by the government. The tax and service charge might be included in the quoted rate, then again they might be tacked on at the end. Call ahead to confirm.
Phone Ahead: It is always best to call ahead to confirm reservations and get directions. From the US the call is like any other use (246) as your area code
Shopping: When using toll-free numbers to make inquiries about these hotels, you will often be connected to a reservation service and not the hotel. Centrally located, between the airport and Bridgetown, is the lively St Lawrence Gap with its very alive nightlife and excellent restaurants. Since the southwest  coast of Barbados has the majority of Barbados budget accommodations in guesthouses and short-term apartments you can also enjoy its upbeat playful youthful atmosphere. West Coast

Although the west, or "platinum" coast of Barbados is renowned for its luxury hotels, several of which are ranked among the best in the Caribbean, there are a handful of cheaper places sandwiched between them. There's less of a "resort" feel than in the south, with hotels spaced out at more or less regular intervals along the coast.

There are no budget hotels on the platinum Coast of Barbados However according to Lonely Planet Speightstown's unofficial tourist officer, Junior Clement at the Fisherman's Pub, rents out fairly basic but comfortable chattel houses and apartments from $30 a night.
