The coral rocks, together with sandstone and volcanic actions, created
the island, and you only have to dig a foot or two to find a vast underground water
system. Harrisons Cave in St. Thomas
is a luminous water cavern that makes a spectacular excursion. The one hundred and
sixty-six square miles of Barbados has room for a Wildlife Reserve where the mahogany
forest holds green monkeys, deer, wallabies, pelicans, otters and many other island
critters.

Shopping
Broad Street in the capital
city of Bridgetown is where to begin with several large department stores and
duty free shops. Prices
are generally high, but the range of goods available is excellent.
Street vendors can be
persistent but generally friendly. If your going to other islands do your
book shopping here

Snorkeling Sites
Just before the St James Church, there is a small road road to Fahnsworth
Park. Turn left off the main road here to approach a wooded area opening to
a lovely uncrowded beach that seems to be the best kept secret of Barbados.
This is the gem you had hoped to find. The waters are crystal clear, and the
sea life is close to the shore and absolutely abundant
