Brooklyn, New York calls itself the Capital of the
Caribbean. This cluster of small island
nations owns an inimitable 500 year history which best defines "New World." It
is a history of misrule among an ever changing succession of Kings and Queens who rarely
if ever visited or invested. The largest immigrant group began as African slaves and
retained their culture through the arts of song, dance and story. Today these festival
arts proudly express themselves as some of the biggest and greatest celebrations
throughout North America and even Europe. They invite each of us to become a King or
Queen.
For 1998, Brooklyn Carnival will host
two of Carnivals most regal personages from the enchanted island of Trinidad. The
1998 Miss Universe is Wendy Fitzwilliam who charms all who fall within her gaze. When the
history of art on the cusp of the millennium is written, long after we are all gone, there
should be little doubt among us, that the greatest creations were done by Trinidad Mas man
Peter Minshall There still may be time to be part of something greater than
yourself by joining his joint production with Sesame Flyers for the Carnival parade this
year.Carnaval.com's web partner is --So Yu Going to Carnival. The only international
guide to the Carnivals of the world is based in Brooklyn. Publisher Carlisle Hall is also
the producer of the second annual 1998 Calypso Monarch Competition At this contest you can
find some of the most original stars of carnival culture laboring for the love of a
concept they know in their hearts will some day regain the spotlight.
Cultural Tourism is on the move in Brooklyn and we invite you to visit the
expanded and improved web guide to the world' biggest neighborhood.
