Tunapuna Scanty and Lady Guymine dominated the first USA Calypso Monarch Competition in New York's home of Calypso culture.

Scanty's presentations, "Let the Nation Know" and "Ole Time Days," had the audience of more than five hundred people calling for more, which was not possible in the competition of this type.

Lady Guymine was equally overpowering with her two songs "Satan in the Grass" and "Granny Fit." The popular "Granny Fit" sent the audience into extended fits of laughter.

The performers were equal to or surpassed what is generally seen at any Dimanche Gras Show in Trinidad and Tobago at Carnival Time.

"In setting the New York Stage, the Calypso culture has now shifted to perhaps the most prominent theatre for art and culture in the world, and that is New York," said producer Carlisle Hall, the publisher of So Yu Going to Carnival magazine.

The winners received two beautiful glass trophies, appeared at the Dimanche Gras competition and will represent the USA in the International Soca Competition in Trinidad & Tobago.
