The Rodovi?ria is 3 miles out from the centre, in the suburb of Cidade de Esperan?a, but you can get a local bus into town at the bus stop on the other side of the road, opposite the Rodovi?ria entrance. Most of these buses from across the road pass through the centre: those marked "Av. Rio Branco", "Cidade Alta" and "Ribeira" are the most common. Taxis from the Rodovi?ria into the centre are also plentiful and should cost around $8.

At the central bus station  you can get local buses to most of the places you might want to go to: all the buses to the southern beaches, like Areia Preta and Ponta Negra, can be caught from here or the seafront; buses marked "Via Costeira" head along the southern coastal road out to Ponta Negra and beyond.
Several bus routes run from the centre to the Rodovi?ria, taking at least half an hour and often longer because of their circuitous routes; buses marked "Cidade de Esperan?a" are the most direct.
Minibuses , acting as collective maxi taxis,  compete with buses, stopping at many corners en route.
